Song of the Day: Ricki-Lee - Can't Touch It

I just got home from my reunion this morning, and have unpacking, laundry, and oh yeah...I have to run off to do a job! It's all good though. I had an amazing weekend with my family, and we even managed to squeeze in Sex and the City 2! Unfortunately, I don't have a gushing review which totally bums me out! I was completely disappointed! If you haven't seen it yet, I don't want to spoil it for you, but it just seemed like they were trying too hard. Again, SUPER disappointed! I don't know what else to say other than, if you really have your heart set on seeing it, go and make up your own mind, but you've been warned. There was one little jem in the movie which I hunted down as soon as I got home. "Can't Touch It" by Aussie singer Ricki-Lee is the SATC2 theme song, and the perfect work-out beat! Exactly what I need to kick my butt into gear,  after 4 days of  what should be called "the family food fest!" Time to get back to business!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

P.S. Only 3 more days to enter my Bobbi Brown giveaway!

The winner will be announced on Monday, June 7th.
Good Luck!

Song of the Day: The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

I completely fell in love with this song when I first heard it in (500) Days of Summer, and I adore it even more now that I've seen the video! I've posted before about roller skating here and here. You can imagine how giddy I was to see skating and The Temper Trap combined! Genius! Look for the skater at around the :55 mark. Enjoy!

A Stroll in the Park

My last day in the city was absolute perfection! I started the day with breakfast at my favorite spot, Norma's, and then headed to Central Park to go ice skating. I prefer Wollman Rink in the park as opposed to Rockefeller Center, purely for the scenery. It's so gorgeous having the skyline as your backdrop. Truly magical!

Although I'm a better roller skater, I managed to ice skate for two hours and didn't fall once!  After skating, I took a leisurely walk through the park. No rush, no agenda, just enjoying the scenery around me. It was so pretty, even if the trees were all barren.  I was clicking away on my camera, at anything that was inspiring. Here are some of my favorite pics:

Have a great weekend!

Skating is Back

I was so excited when I was flipping through the January issue of Harper's Bazzar, and found this picture! A model, looking fabulous in ROLLER SKATES! In 2010! It's ON people...Roller Skating is BACK!

And check out these Riedell "Mustang" skates....ordered, and on the way!

Winter Wonderland

Even though Christmas was just a couple of weeks ago, the stores are already stocking Spring clothes and bathing suits. It's freezing outside! (at least for most of the country) In fact, we've just barely started Winter. While retailers are rushing to get us to the next Season, this is the time of year that I like to retreat, slow down, and take in the simple pleasures of the colder weather.

Here are a few of the ways that I'll be celebrating Winter:

  • Light a fire, curl up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and a good book.
  • Take naps
  • Go ice skating
  • Unplug - take a break from the phone, texting, email, facebook, twitter, and tv.
  • Cook - try out new recipes as well as cozy favorites like butternut squash soup, chicken chili, and beef stew.
  • Have a movie night. Stay in and order pizza.
  • Host a hot chocolate tasting.
  • Play board games like Scattergories, Balderdash, Taboo, and Scrabble.
How will you celebrate Winter?

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Roller Girl

via

Roller skating was HUGE when I was in junior high school. There were even movies made about skating! Skatetown USA, Rollerboogie, and who could forget Olivia Newton-John as Kyra "the muse" in Xanadu? I became a really good skater during those years, until I got older, and discovered boys. ( and my brother took apart my skates to make a skateboard. Grrrr!) Well, I just went roller skating for the first time in...well...a VERY long time! It was so much fun! I forgot how much I loved it, and it's such a great workout! I'm now on the hunt to buy a new pair of skates because the rentals are just horrible. I know I'll enjoy it even more with good equipment and it's cheaper too. Skating, coupled with riding my fancy bike that I bought two years ago, will be a nice start to my fitness goals. Now, if only I could look as good as Dita VonTeese while biking...

New Year's Goals

I've always loved the start of a new year. The sense of renewal, a clean slate and full of possibilities. It's so hopeful! I'm excited to start 2010 on the right foot, so I've compiled my list of well thought out goals. Starting now!

1.) Eat healthier and eliminate Diet Pepsi. I'm a pretty healthy eater, but I definitely could up my intake of fruits and veggies. However, my Diet Pepsi consumption is completely out of control. On a bad day, I can polish off a whole 2 liter bottle! That's just ridiculous! I know I'll have to go through some sort of weening process, but would like to be drinking only tea and water by Summer.

2.) Cook at home. To help with goal #1, I want to start cooking more. I love to cook and since I got a new Ina Garten-Barefoot Contessa book for Christmas, I plan to dive in! Once a week I'll try making something new, and if it's any good, I'll share the recipe.

3.) Exercise regularly. This is going to be a tough one for me since I generally hate working out. I guess too many years as a gymnast and as a gymnastics coach has made me dread going to the gym. I spent my life in a gym! I really need to be creative, and find new and fun ways to be active. Recently, I tried something that I hadn't done since I was a kid, and I'm completely inspired! Look for a separate post on this subject tomorrow! Stay tuned...

4.) Organize and Redecorate my office. My home office is begging for a major overhaul, and in 2010, it's going to get it! Nothing about this room works in it's current state, and it's painful to spend time there. I plan to clearly define what the space will be used for, clear out the junk, create proper storage, buy new furniture/lighting/accessories, and give the walls a fresh coat of paint. This is the year that I create the glamorous office I've been dreaming of.

5.) Volunteer. I've always had a heart for the elderly, and really enjoy listening them tell their "stories." They have so much wisdom to learn from, and often times are neglected. I'd like to get involved with some sort of adopt-a-grandparent or convalescent program. Seems like a good place to start.

What are some of your goals for the New Year?
